Horror Movies Analysis N°4: Apollo 18

SPOILER ALERT: If you have not yet watched the movie, don't read the article.

Hell'o humans, and hellcome to the section of the field of horror that is so dear to my heart. For this fourth edition, the horror takes place in space because it provides a low-budget film released in 2011, but that is for me one of the best horror films low budget, and is based about real facts: Apollo 18.

Quick synopsis of the film:
Apollo 17 was supposed to be the last trip to the moon. But in 1974, in the greatest secret, the government and NASA sent the Apollo 18 flight to the moon, or a crew of three astronauts: Anderson, Walker and Grey must install long-range spy systems on surface the moon, to spy on the Russians and avoid any Soviet attack. But in reality, the purpose of the mission is of a different kind and the government didn't warned the three astronauts about the truth. The astronauts will find themselves embarking into a nightmare in the space, that could take their life. In fact, the moon is not as deserted as it seems. The government had said that the other trips to the moon were canceled due to budget, but this is false: the truth is much more terrifying: there is something on the moon, and it does not want us in its territory.

Although the scenario seems basic, and the film did not have a good reception, it is not nearly as bad as many pretend to say. Personally, I loved this film and its context. Already, the fact that this film is inspired on real events such as traveling to the moon by the Apollo missions, it's great and well thought. It is true that the Apollo 18 trip was canceled, but to make a film and to make believe that it was held in secret.... Ingenious.
The actors, unknown, but very well played their roles. Another great idea is to have made a film on the moon, a world very remote of the earth, or find themselves lost our heroes, in an environment that is much more hostile and threatening than they thought. One of the most terrifying scenes is when they discover the body of a Russian cosmonaut, and understand that he is not dead by accident, but was killed by something. The Russians confirmed that they have sent only one man, so .... What killed this man?
The film is shot as a kind of documentary that has gone wrong and is filmed with a handheld camera to add more realism and make believe that it is of archival videos that show the nightmare that have experienced these men on the moon. Really well done, and even if it's fictional, it gives chills in the back.
And for the "villains" of the movie, well, no ultra futuristic alien civilization. The creatures of the film are very few views during the film, and only a few seconds per image, and most are blurry or poorly framed on purpose, so that the viewer is constantly asks about what it is. From what I've seen, these are kinds of parasites like spiders, that blend into the rocky environment of the moon and can parasitize humans, for entering their bodies and are very aggressive toward us, as if they didn't want us on their territory. At first I was scared that aliens from the movie are too futuristic or too human and break the macabre atmosphere of the film, but not, fortunately. Having created primitive parasites and thus create a sort of primitive fauna on the moon is brilliant and well thought out. And show that the government was aware from the beginning and had sent astronauts without warning them, adds suspense to the story.

So if you like science fiction, horror, silent and macabre atmospheres, and also the terrifying creatures, watch Apollo 18. Not the film of the year, but good entertainment nonetheless. I recommand it.

My first Nightwish / Arch Enemy concert. We were here!

Last night, another dream came true: I go to Paris, to the Accor Hotels Arena (formerly Bercy), to see a Metal concert with two of my favorite bands: Arch Enemy and Nightwish (Amorphis was planned too, but I've missed them, I will explain why, after)

With the tragic events that hit France shortly before, I admit that the D-Day morning, I was pretty stressed out, even a little anxious to return to Paris. But I did not let my fear dominate me, I did not cancel my ticket and I went. As I said above, Amorphis was also planned in the concert, but I was late because of traffic jams and with security checks, I lost a little more time. But I can understand the controls, with what happened and I am very reassured that the police is as much present, it's reassuring. Before entering, I was stressed, but as soon as I enter in the arena, the stress has disappeared, giving way to joy. I was in my universe. I can't say how was Amorphis unfortunately.

Arch Enemy <3 \m/

Fortunately I arrived in time to see the Death Metal band, Arch Enemy, a group of which I am more and more fan and I wanted to see them in live since some time. I have a crush on the singer of the group, Alissa White-Gluz, she is among my favorite metal singers <3. Arch Enemy are really impressive, both on CD and live. Before Nightwish, they put a crazy atmosphere and heat the room properly. I thinks that Arch Enemy managed to conquer Paris and the heart of the French people, as we conquered their hearts, because they were really happy to be here.

Nightwish <3 \m/

And then, of course, the star group of the evening happened: one of the best known Finnish bands in the world, and also the reference of the Symphonic Metal: Nightwish! I wait since 2013 to see them in live, and my dream came true.
As Alissa, I also have a crush on the new Nightwish singer, Floor Jansen <3. She has such a beautiful voice, I was blown away several times ..... And she' so beautiful too <3

Nightwish played several of my favorite songs, like Nemo, Elan, Ghost Love Score, While your lips are still red, Sleeping Sun ..... And many others. The means were here: flaming explosions, fireworks, giant screens behind the stage that showed beautiful images .... In short, the big show, like the KISS concert at the Zenith in June.
During the concert, Nightwish made several tributes to France, and especially for the victims of the attacks that took place on November 13. The group encouraged us, told us to stay strong, they were with us to support us. During the song "Sleeping Sun", many people of the public turned their lighters like candles. It was a really beautiful, sad and moving moment, I even had a small tear in the corner of the eye. Anyway thank you very much Nightwish for the tributes, for Paris but also for the whole France. Paris loves you Nightwish, France loves you, and you love us too. You give warmth in the hearts of the French fans, and mine too. Thank you for this incredible Metal night. We were here, and still standing! \m/

Here my videos of the concert:

How I discovered Lordi? My story with the Lapland Monsters

It is no longer a secret. In 2008, my life had changed when I started to listen and become a fan of rock and metal music and that I had become a fan of Motörhead, AC / DC and Nirvana, but in 2009, my life changed again when I discovered the band Lordi, the metal monsters. Here how it started:

I have not discovered Lordi with one of their songs, but with the horror film Dark Floors. Big fan of horror movies since always, I often watch the television channel Cine Frisson, and one day, when there was nothing interesting, I saw a movie called "Dark Floors", scheduled for be broadcast after the advertisement. I didn't know the movie and I was curious to see what it was. I watched the movie, and I loved it from beginning to end! To my surprise, I learned that the monsters of the film were a metal band called Lordi, and they created the song of the movie "Beast Loose in Paradise" (generic song I liked so much too) . Even more puzzled and curious, I went to youtube to find and listen to several of their songs. Hard Rock Hallelujah, It Snows in Hell, Who's your Daddy, Devil is a Loser, Blood Red Sandman ..... My heart was conquered, and the same day I discovered Lordi, I became a fan, and I have never ceased to be.
I like all the members of Lordi (former and current), but I'm really falling in love with their female monsters, like Lady Awa, and the Scarbie Hella, which have become my favorites.
I bought all their albums, I bought all their DVD and the movie Dark Floors of course, I have three t-shirts of the group (one of the Arockalypse era, one of the TBONTB era, and the third is of the era Scare Force One)
I also wrote Lordi fanfictions on the computer, I published them on my Wattpad account. In these stories, I have a relationship with Hella and the other monsters are my allies, and together we fight against the evil forces. I have already published two stories, and I plan a third to finish the trilogy, which I named "The Chronicles of Lordi." But for now, I don't know if I'll publish the third story, having others planning.
I saw Lordi in live, three times, and I don't want to stop. Each concert was an unforgettable time, and as I like to say, I survived the monsters of Lapland, every time. I had the chance to see them closely, and at the last concert, Mr. Lordi even shot on me with his smoke gun. Amen, Ox and Mana are also very impressive, and Hella, sexy and terrifying, every time I see her in live, my heart starts pounding and I smile like an idiot, but I love that. I just regret that I could never see a Lordi concert with Awa at Keyobards :/
Yep, Lordi changed my life, and I thanks the life for this \m/

My 2nd Lordi live:

Villain of the Month - Edition N°4

Hi humans, and welcome to a new edition of the "Villain of the Month".

In this edition, the most famous villain of Batman, and also one of the most emblematic of the DC universe. The king of crime: the Joker (In this article, I'll talk about the Joker of The Dark Knight) (RIP Heath Ledger)

In The Dark Knight, the Joker is a criminal, but his peculiarity is its goal: he wants no money, no power, what he wants is chaos, just chaos, and also the desire to demonstrate that the world is not as safe and comfortable as the politicians want to make believe to people. His main target is Harvey Dent, an influential and respected attorney and loved by all, which promises a better and secure future for Gotham. The Joker is intended to terrorize and spread death in the city, and also to break Harvey Dent, little by little, to make him fall into the same madness that him, to demonstrate that even the most influential and powerful people are not not immune from becoming heartless monsters.

The Joker is a unique criminal. First, he had the face disfigured by two scars on each side of the mouth, giving it a macabre smile. When he talks about his scars, he invents a past every time, but you can feel his hatred and pain when he speaks, but it's as if he took pleasure in talking about it. The Joker is a very cruel man, who does not hesitate to kill even his own associates. The other highlight of the Joker is his intelligence. He's a criminal mastermind, he always seems to have a step ahead on the police and Batman. The Joker prepares its plans with a truly amazing efficiency, giving him an almost demonic appearance. The joker doesn't care about the money (in the film, he burns a pile of money without remorse), he manages to manipulate others and uses it to take control of the underworld of Gotham. The Joker is also one of the few criminals not to be afraid of Batman. Instead, the Joker even says he does not want to kill Batman because he "amuses him", and as he said to Batman "You complete me". Joker's insanity is to such an extent that he even seems to have no fear of dying (The Joker is still the only villain to laugh when he falls from the top of a building)
Of course, the Joker has gone mad, that's what gives him his character, but the most interesting is that he knows he is crazy and doesn't try to hide it, instead, he wants to make the world as crazy as him. The Joker also has a sense of humor very macabre, often involving the suffering and death as jokes (like the scene where he kills a man of the underworld with a pencil, saying doing a magic trick to make it "disappear" ). The Joker is a villain, but he is part of the category of villains we love, because they are so complex, so badass and epic, that they almost steal the show at the main hero.

To have become an icon of an entire universe, a criminal mastermind feared by all, and also a villain with a unique personality, the Joker deserves its place in the list of the iconic villains.

See you next month for a new edition of the "Villain of the Month"
Why so serious?

My first live of Undobar \m/

"Billions of Days", "Drive your Car", "Roaring", "Promises" et "Digging your Grave" font partie de mes chansons préférés, tellement elles ont marqué mon esprit. :)
Keep on Rockin Undobar \m/

Thanks Undobar \m/ You Rock! :)

Get one ring.....To rule them all!

Today I went into town center to go to a shop of collection toys that I love so much, where I had seen an article that I wanted for a long time, and finally I realized a dream: I got the Ring of Sauron. Not a plastic ring, I bought a true replica of the ring, with the elven engravings all around, like in the movie.
For years, I dreamed to get the Ring and put it on my finger, to become the new lord of the rings. After the dream of Game of Thrones I experienced while I was sitting on the Iron Throne, I touch another symbol of the universe Medieval / Fantasy. Sauron is one of my favorite villains, and to get his symbol is such a pleasure for the LOTR fan I am.
Sitting on the Iron Throne, I get the support and authority over other kingdoms, with my queen Daenerys of house Targaryen, and with the Ring, I get the power to create my armies and get powerful entities under my orders, as the Nazguls.

One ring....To rule them all!

Who is the Captain Phasma?

As we approach the release of the seventh Star Wars movie, I increasingly impatient at the idea of seeing the familiar characters, but also to discover new, and one in particular that intrigues me really but who looks really cool: Captain Phasma.

Finally! I'm glad they finally decided to put a female villain in a Star Wars movie! A Stormtrooper Commander, with a different armor and weapon, to show her superior rank. I find really interesting the concept of a female stormtrooper, something that was absent in the other films. But otherwise, which is the Captain Phasma? Almost no information about her, in her origins, her career, her past or her relationships, but I'm sure we will learn more once the film is out. And another point that satisfies me is that by putting a woman in command of the stormtroopers, Star Wars has shown that this is not a sexist universe, and that a woman can command troops of the Empire, and it's really cool, I really like that.
Phasma is played by the excellent actress Gwendoline Christie, aka Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones, and I am very happy with this choice because Gwendoline's a great actress, very talented, and above all with a unique charisma and perfect for the role of strong women (so, the role of a Stormtrooper commander, I have to say, she is made for that!) I look forward to discover this new character. Oh and one last thing: Her armor is sooo badass!!

Top 5: Mass Effect Favorite Characters

I have already finished Mass Effect 1 and 2, and now I started the 3. This is really one of the best sci-fi franchise that I discovered, the alien species are so varied, and many cults and endearing characters. And here are my 5 first favorites:

1. Liara T'soni
Ah Liara <3 I fell in love with her after the first discussions with her. She's really interesting, beautiful, strong, kind and understandable. She is tolerant to the other species, and even though she knows that humans are unpredictable, she wants to know our species. But Liara is also a fighter, she knows how to handle weapons and has biotic powers, which are very useful in combat. Liara evolved over the games, in the first she was shy, and in the 2 and 3, she becomes more dangerous, stronger and determined, what attracts me even more and makes her even sexier. I have a romance with her in the games, and our relationship is strong. What's even more great, is that with this relationship, Liara encourages me because she believes in me, as I believe in her. I love you Liara.

2. Urdnot Wrex
Wrex is a krogan, one of the favorite races of the ME universe, with Asari and Turians. But Wrex is really special. He's really cool, his humor makes me laugh, and especially, he's a leader and an accomplished warrior, very strong and useful in combat. Wrex made me laugh more than once, but I also like him because he's really respectable, and a loyal friend. Most of the Krogans are considered as selfish but Wrex is different because he cares about the fate of all his people and wants to protect it, I really admire that. At first glance, Wrex can be seeing as a brute who only love violence and blood, but when we know better, we see that Wrex is also a wise, who knows make the right decisions for himself, but also for its people and its allies. I considers Wrex as a brother now.

3. Garrus Vakarian
Another very cool character and that I considers like my brother. The Turian soldier, Garrus Vakarian. Code Name: Archangel. As with Liara and Wrex, I liked Garrus from the early scenes with him. He is really strong with weapons and is useful in combat. But also, Garrus has a really cool character and I like to talk with him. I also admire Garrus because he wants to bring a fair justice in the galaxy, and wants to eliminate the gangs that threaten this justice, and he is also ready to defend the galaxy against the Reapers. And also, Garrus has a sense of humor, which I also appreciate.

4. Urdnot Grunt
Yep, another Krogan, I'm really a fan of this species now. Grunt is different from the other Krogans, in its way, as he was created to be the ultimate soldier. Grunt me laugh a lot with his humor rather offbeat, and also he always want to kick ass and ready to fight, making jokes about it. Grunt was created like that. But Grunt also has a conscience because he wants to be part of the Krogan people, to have a clan and a chance to have a family, and I appreciate even more than Wrex have accepted him in his clan, as true Urdnot. Grunt is also very powerful and useful in battles, he saved my life more than once.

5. Kasumi
The first human in this ranking. Kasumi is a human, and she became the most famous and dangerous thief in the galaxy. I really like the way she uses her skills of stealth and camouflage to attack the enemy by surprise, like a ninja. I think it's really cool and sexy too hehe. Kasumi has a character rather reserved and mysterious, she does not seem very inclined to the discussion, but when we discover her past, we feel sorry for her, which makes her more human and endearing. One thing I regret is that it's impossible to have a romance with her.

DiscoveRock Edition N°3 - Dirge

Hello humans, and welcome to this new edition of DiscoveRock. This month, the group honored is French. Dirge is a group of Post / Sludge / Doom Metal, founded in 1994 and already have 6 albums to their credit. The group has already made some concerts abroad, especially in Finland, or they seem even more popular than in France. I saw them in live at the festival Foud'Rock last year, and I really liked them and they become one of my favorite French Metal bands. The style of Dirge is very remarkable because very slow and melodic, in a dark and gloomy atmosphere. If you like anything that relates to the darkness and if you love dark metal music, you'll love Dirge.

Members of the band:
- Marc T.: Vocals and Guitars
- Stéphane L.: Guitars
- Luz: Bass
- Alain B: Drums

See you next month for a new DiscoveRock \m/
