Horror Movies Analysis N°3: Farm House

After a very long absence and for the month of Halloween, October, it's the return of the rubric: Horror Movie Analysis. The concept has changed a bit but the idea remains the same: to speak of a horror movie that I saw recently and say my views about it. To avoid the spoil, if you have not yet seen the movie, don't read the article.
For this third rubric, a film whose script seems very basic at first, but ultimately reveals a lot of surprises and suspense for a low budget film: Farm House.

Quick summary of the story: After the death of their disabled son and with a lot of debts, a couple, Chad and Scarlett decide to change their life and leave from San Diego to live in Seattle. But on the road, Chad falls asleep at the wheel and the car struck a pole. The car turned off, the couple finds refuge with a couple of wine producers who live in the middle of nowhere. The farmers are very friendly and even offer hospitality to Chad and Scarlett, and they accept. But during the night, Chad and Scarlett find themselves tied and gagged in the barn and are tortured by the couple of farmers, which now show sadistic and psychotic. Chad and Scarlett are going to do everything to survive, and trying to find out why these people seem so eager to kill them.

As I said, a very basic scenario, but at first glance, because Farm House is not a simple horror film, it is also a thriller, with a lot of suspense. In Farm House, the wrong people are not necessarily the ones you might think, because behind this story of torture and kidnapping, hides a dark secret that Chad and Scarlett are trying to hide and forget since several months.
Chad had gambling debts and his couple was threatened by the men to whom he owed money. For pay them, Chad and Scarlett decided to drown their son and to pay the debts with the money from life insurance. Scarlett drowned her son in the tub, telling to Chad that they could start a new life and have other children, and that in any case, being disabled, their actual son could never have a normal life.
Horrible story it's true, but what is the link with the couple of farmers you will tell me? I'll get to that. Warning: Big spoil!
At the end of the film, appears the true great monster of the film: Satan! Yes, the devil himself appears in front of Chad and Scarlett, alongside the pair of winemakers, Samael and Lillith, who are actually demons. Satan reveals to Chad and Scarlett they died in the accident against the post and they have been sent to hell to be punished for killing their son.
Scarlett seems to have a connection with Satan, for being small, she had already met him, unknowingly. When she was little, Scarlett was abused by her father, and to save her, the mother of Scarlett had killed her abusive husband, and Scarlett had lied about the consequences of his death, but revealed them to an old man who claimed to be the a friend of his father, but was actually the devil. At this moment, Satan knew that being bad was part of Scarlett. At the end of the movie, Satan even told to Chad and Scarlett: "You know, if I was not the one I'm really, I'd say you are horrible persons." Chad and Scarlett are therefore condemned to remain in hell for what they did.

To conclude this Horror Movie Analysis, I would say that Farm House is perhaps a low-budget film, but the actors are good, the special effects are very good, and some gore scenes too. In conclusion, I would say that Farm House is not a film to judge before seeing it. I therefore advise it, as I liked, and I think a lot of horror fans say the same thing. I'm not trying to influence you absolutely, I say just my personal view.
